Wilkes University’s Creative Writing Program is offering non-credit workshops beginning next week.


  • Poetry taught by Dawn Leas
  • Introduction to Screenwriting taught by Nathan Summerlin
  • Beginning the Novel (Fiction)
 taught by Francisco Tutella
  • Advanced Creative Nonfiction taught by Sam Chiarelli
  • Writing Memoir taught by Vicki Mayk
  • Playwriting taught by Matthew Hinton
  • Strong and Independent Women Protagonists taught by Nina Long

Nina’s workshop is a single session and is free. The rest run six weeks, one night per week and cost $55.

Clever Girl, a new literary journal of women’s writing, based in Honesdale, PA, seeks fiction (any genre), creative nonfiction, and poetry by female writers. Submissions must be no more than 7,500 words and may be accompanied by illustrations.

Also, female artists are encouraged to submit comic-strip stories (up to 10 pages), cartoon panels, and stand-alone artwork. Please send text as a Word attachment and artwork as JPEGs to clevergirlmag@gmail.com.

Writers’ Groups Updates

Just a couple of notes from local writers’ groups: Wyoming Valley Wordsmiths will now be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month (had been Tuesdays to this point). The writers’ group which has been meeting at the Osterhout library on the 2nd Tuesday of each month is closing down.
